Herbs to avoid during pregnancy
Here is a list of things to avoid during pregnancy...Some of them are useful after the onset of labor or to promote an overdue labor but should be avoided other wise for they cause uterine contractions, or contain steriods and could cause miscarriage and/or premature labor. When taking alcohol tinctures in pregnancy/during lactation always place the tincture in a cup and pour boiling water into it to cause the alcohol to evaporate. This is also good to do if giving tinctures to children.

Herbs that promote a healthy pregnancy or may help facilitate a slow or overdue labor.

Red Raspberry - tea - this is good for your whole pregnancy and is said to coordinate contractions and make labor shorter.

Evening Primrose Oil, three capsules daily for up to a week may ripen the cervix

Black Cohosh tincture may be taken after the onset of labor -10 drops hourly should have a noticeable effect in 3-4 hours

Blue Cohosh tincture 3-8 drops in a glass of warm water or tea is very effective in starting labor. Repeat every half hour until contractions are regular.

PERSONALLY SPEAKING: I feel "the apple will fall when it is ripe" - and unless you are seriously pass due and your midwife or doctor is concerned about the health of your baby, I would consider all the options before attempting to induce labor.

So basically the best thing to do is drink lots of red raspberry tea and WAIT!!! Actually I found if I started a really BIG project that couldn't possibly be finished by someone else or in a few days was a sure way to cause labor to start!!
